Jonas Vingegaard of Visma-Lease a Bike has crashed out of the Tour de France
Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) has crashed out of the Tour de France today, Sunday, with about 20km remaining on stage 15 from Champagnole to Plateau de Solaison.
The Dane was in the general classification group, with his team mates on the front, on the run-in to the final climb when he came down.
Vingegaard was the first faller, coming down on a tight right hander at a small roundabout, with the two-time Tour winner perhaps clipping the kerb with his pedal.

When Vingegaard (29) went down, it was immediately clear he probably wasn't getting back on his bike. He remained sat in the road, clutching his right arm in a manner that suggested a broken wrist or collarbone.
In May he won the Giro d'Italia, completing his set of three Grand Tour general classification victories. He then went into this Tour hoping to challenge defending champion Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates-XRG).

So far, Pogačar had looked by far the strongest, leading the race this morning with a 4:30 cushion on his great rival Vingegaard.
However, the Danish rider had been insisting before the start of today's stage he was still in the race to win, rather than taking a defensive approach to be sure of 2nd place.
When he crashed today, the remains of the peloton sat up for a period to see if he could get back on. And that meant the day's breakaway saw its advantage increase, having been at around 2:30 with the final climb to the summit finish to come.
That breakaway featured rides like Tom Pidcock (Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team), Quinn Simmons (Lidl Trek), Adam Yates (UAE Team Emirates XRG) and stage 13 winner Mauro Schmid (Team Jayco AlUla).
