A former winner of the race overall and one of Ireland’s leading riders for over a decade, Tim Barry has taken the second stage at the Kerry Group Rás Mumhan.

Barry’s win today follows victory in yesterday’s opening stage into Killorglin by his AquaBlue team mate Damien Shaw.

Last year’s overall winner, Dutchman Dennis Bakker guesting for Killorglin was a close second today. Provisional results indicate that the new race leader is Harry Sweering of West Fresia, also from Holland.

Barry, Sweering and Bakker were in the winning five-man breakaway today that also featured Con Collis (UCD CC) and Martin Mizgajski (Iverk Carrick Produce).

Collis put in a fantastic attack in the last couple of kilometres and pulled out a gap that looked for a while like it would bring him the stage win into Kenmare. But he was overhauled in the very closing stages, leaving the way for Barry to take the win just ahead of Bakker. More later.
