Seth Dunwoody (Bahrain Victorious Development Team) has just broken the Irish 10 mile TT record, set by Ryan Mullen way back in 2-14 and equalled by Conor Murphy (Decathlon CMA CGM Development Team) last year.

Dunwoody beat the previous marker, of 17:42, this evening, Thursday, in the latest round of the Ernie Magwood Super Six Series on the Frosses course in Ballymena, Co Antrim.

His time of 17:25 smashed the record, which was begging to be broken it was there for so long, but that is easier said than done, of course.

That time for Dunwoody is provisional for now, but it's clear he was well inside the record.

With a maximum gear of 66 x 11, Dunwoody put in the blistering time just days after winning the U23 men's points race European title at the European Track Championships in Germany.

And just before heading off to those championships he claimed gold in the U23-senior men's road race at the National Road Championships in Cong, Co Mayo.

More to come.
