One of the most active clubs in the country when it comes to promoting road racing, Jons Drogheda Wheelers has just saved its Mark Mullen League for the year and is now set to honour Craig Sweetman.

Twelve months ago, just days after seeing his son, Toby, win a stage of the Junior Tour of Ireland in the green of Ireland, Craig very unexpectedly died.

He had raced at the highest level in Ireland, and represented his country on the road. His presence on the road scene for decades, not to mention his popularity, meant Irish cycling was shaken by his passing.

However, in a break with how the inter club summer league usually works, the next round in honour of Craig is being opened to all riders.

And that means anyone can get involved - sign up and get more information here - and go and race in Craig’s honour next Monday evening, July 20th.

The league is a long-standing fixture on the local cycling calendar, offering around 75 minutes of competitive racing each Monday evening "in a fun and welcoming atmosphere".

"Whether you’re looking to test yourself, sharpen the racing legs or simply enjoy a good night’s cycling, there’s something for everyone," said Drogheda Wheelers of the event, which is a more relaxed fixture than open races.
