That's how he rolls; Sam Bennett's latest pro win in 18 great photos

We take a wry look at the photos that captured Ireland's latest win in the pro peloton.

Sam Bennett yesterday scalped the best in Germany for the stage win and first yellow jersey at Bayern Rundfahrt at the end of the 221.3km stage from Regensburg to Waldsassen.

He saw off Grand Tour multi stage winners Nacer Bouhanni (Cofidis) and John Degenkolb (Giant-Alpecin); the latter winning Paris-Roubaix and Milan-San Remo of late.

Bennett won the final stage of the same race last year and will aim for further success before the event finishes on Sunday.

"Yes John; how very, very interesting. Now tell us all about how you're going to win today's stage?"

The peloton rolls out of Regensburg, or 'Planet of Apes' as it was renamed when the locals skulled all the free Alpecin Caffeine Shampoo by mid morning.

It was a welcome sight seeing Bennett's Bora-Argon 18 on or near the front practically the entire day; clearly backing the Irishman to the hilt. A slightly less welcome sight is the rider at the very bottom of the shot who's strayed into the photo clearly having a Jimmy Riddle.

The breakaway establishes itself; the lad on the front looking like an U16 rider who's dressed in replica kit for the day and just jumped out of the bushes.

Bennett's Bora-Argon 18 (still) on the front; their man longing for the comfort of the middle of the bunch where he used to be able to ride before they signed the Irish fast man.

Giant Alpecin and Cofidis loitering at the head of affairs, still labouring under the illusion they're working to bag the stage win. Bless.

In a completely unexpected development, the Colombia rider gets over excited when the road goes even slightly uphill.
