Aaron Wade (Team U Cube 17) has taken his third victory of the last 10 days when he was best at 'Round 10' of the Mondello Series in Co Kildare, promoted this evening by Usher Irish Road Club.

Wade topped the podium from repeat winners at Mondello, Luke Smith (Moynalty CC) and Conor Murnane (UCD Cycling).

While the racing was marked by plenty of aggression, the many moves were closed down until the latter stages of the race. However, as the scratch group was closing in on the A2 bunch, eventual runner-up Smith broke clear of the scratch group and got across to those ahead on his own.

The scratch group continued to close up on the A2s, just as that group were catching the group ahead of them, with the field coming together to create a much bigger bunch. While there were lots of attacks in the last three or four laps, the moves were covered doggedly from start to finish this evening.

Into the last corner, the group was still together when Smith – who has been very successful in Mondello this season – was first through that turn. However, Wade was on his wheel. With a crosswind coming from the right, Wade went to the left of Smith and managed to get by him before the line, with Murnane not too far away in 3rd place.

Wade's latest win comes just three days after he claimed victory in the final round of the Cycling Ireland National Road Series in Dromore, Co Down, on Saturday. Wade, who has been based mainly in France this year, also took his first big win on French soil the weekend before last when he was best in the bunch sprint that settled GP Christian Fenioux-Souvenir Gilles-Malard.

More to come.
