
The new Irish road race season is just days away, with no fewer than five promotions being held on the opening weekend of the campaign this Saturday and Sunday, March 1st and 2nd.
We'll already signaled - in this piece - that many races were open for entries in recent weeks, including the Easter stage races, with links for those at the end of this item.
We're now taking a quick run through all of the road races up to March 17th. And those after that date will come later.
Cycling Ireland has made changes to the domestic road scene for the season ahead, after putting in a lot of work over the last 18 months. So let's hope the turn-out for these races in the first weeks of the season can be the start of a fightback for the road scene in 2025.
Sat, March 1st: Dublin Wheelers Open Races, Summerhill, Co Meath
- Mick Lally Memorial Race for C1-C+, the Ian Gallahar Memorial Race for C2s and the Willie Marks Memorial Race for C3s. You can get all the details and enter at this link.
Sat, March 1st: Travers Engineering Annaclone GP, Down, by Banbridge CC
- Two races on the day; one for C+, C1 & C2 categories and the other for C3s. You can get all the details and enter at this link.
Sun, March 2nd: Lacey Cup, by Manor West Tralee BC, Co Kerry
- Two races are being promoted; a handicapped C1-C2 race and a separate C3 event. You can get all the details and enter at this link.
Sun, March 2nd: Phoenix Grand Prix by Phoenix CC in Crumlin, Co Antrim
- There are three races being run; one for C2s, one for C3s and another for Masters-Women. You can get all the details and enter at this link.
Sun March 2nd: Seamus Kennedy Memorial by Navan Road Club, Co Meath
- This is the first 'national' race of the season, with four events being run; one for C1s, one for C2s, one for C3s and one for women. You can get all the details and enter at this link.
Sat March 8th: Boyne GP by Drogheda Wheelers, Rathkenny

Sun, March 9th: John Haldane Memorial by Newry Wheelers, Poyntpass, Co Down
- There are two races on, being run on the Tandragee Circuit; one for C1-C2 and the other for Cs. Get all the details and enter at this link.
Sun, March 9th: Sliabh Luachra Clasaici, by Sliabh Luachra CC, Knocknagree, Co Cork
- This is the second national level race of the season. There are four races being promoted; C1 Denis Sheehan Cup, C2 Willie Reen Cup, C3 John Fleming Cup, Sliabh Luachra Clasaici Women's Cup. Get all the details and enter at this link.
Sat March 15th: Lucan GP by Lucan CRC, Dunsany GAA Club, Co Meath

Sun, March 16th: Galway Classic by Galway Bay CC, Athenry area
- There are three races being run in what is Ireland's only national level race this season with gravel sections; one for C1s, one for C2s and one for C3s. Get all the details and enter at this link.
Mon, March 17th: Bobby Power Memorial by Carrick Panduit Wheelers
- There are three races being held; the C1 Bobby Power Memorial, C2 Tommy Sheehan Memorial and C3 Landy Cup. Get all the details and enter at this link.
We'll return to these races in the weeks ahead, before they are run, and then preview others, that fall after March 17th, in more detail.
For now there are some other key races open for entry, namely the first three stage races of the season. The first is Rás Mhaigheo, which takes place on Saturday and Sunday, March 22nd and 23rd, and is already open for entries at this link.
Looking a little further ahead, to the Easter Weekend at the end of April, Dornan Rás Mumhan is already open for entries at this link. The Gorey Three Day, another big Easter fixture, is also now open for business and you can enter at this link.
