St Tiernan's CC's Peter McColgan will ride in the yellow jersey for this afternoon's demanding stage three at the Omagh Three Day.
He retains yellow having kept all but one at bay in this morning's time trial.
Having won stage one on Friday night, McColgan went into this morning's 4.04km time trial with a four second lead.
In finishing second to Phoenix CC's Daniel Daly, McColgan pushed that lead out to nine seconds, with a time of 5mins 10.25secs.
Friday night's sprint finish means though that the top 20 on general classification go into this afternoon's 73km test within 34 seconds of the lead.
But gaps look certain to appear on the exposed, windy, hilly course this afternoon during stage 3.
Race director Stephen McKenna explained: "We are using the same route for the women's and men's races.
"It's quite an undulating course, with two KOHs, and throughout they will either be racing on exposed moorland or on hilly terrain.
"The 15 mile run to the finish is particularly exposed, it could be very difficult for a breakaway to stay away in that wind. At the Tour of Ulster on that stretch they were doing 9mph."
In the women's race, Claire McIlwaine (Phoenix CC) won this morning's TT.
And that win combined with her runner-up placing on stage 1 means she leads the general classification after the test.
Friday evening's opening stage was won by Alice Sharpe, a team mate of McIlwaine's.
She led home McIlwaine and Katharine Smyth (Team Madigan); the trio finishing on the same time but with time bonuses for the top three.
And they were once again the top three in the TT; McIlwaine taking it from Smyth by three seconds with Sharpe 4.4 seconds back.
It means McIlwaine went into the race lead from her team mate by just four tenths of one second. Smyth is 3rd overall at five seconds going into stage 3 this afternoon.
The action begins at 2pm for stage three at the Omagh Three Day.
