Impressive Downey (17) takes Mid Ulster GP by huge margin

Ethan Downey has taken another strong victory in the A1-A2-A3 race at the Mid Ulster GP.
Having already take two wins this season, teenager Ethan Downey has now collected a hat-trick.
The Clann Eireann junior rider has won the Mid Ulster GP by one minute solo.
He took flight from the group he was win the 100km handicapped event in Cookstown and rode flat out to win.
The next man home Darragh McCarter of Donegal Bay CC was one minute back.
With the riders facing six laps of a 10 mile course, Downey made his move on the penultimate circuit.
When a small group of a half dozen riders went clear and built a gap of around 15 seconds, Downey went across.
He was with top Masters rider John Madden (Inspired Cycling) and a third man.
They reached the group up ahead just as the climb on the course was starting.
And thought he had put in a hard effort to bridge to the group, Downey wasted no time.
He made his move on the climb; driving hard and going clear on his own.
His gap reached 40 seconds very quickly and by the time he reached the finish he had a minute on a group of seven.
It was brought home by McCarter, with Kevin McKinney (Armagh City Cyclists) in 3rd.
Downey had only just returned to Ireland last night after a training trip to Spain.
Clearly the form that carried him to two wins this year even before today has been further sharpened by his trip abroad.
In March he took the Derrymacash GP in Lurgan on his own by about 30 seconds.
Last month he claimed the Killylough GP in Scotstown, Co Monaghan; though by a smaller margin.
