We write about cars jumping lights in Dublin; then this happens at the very same lights

We had a good chuckle to ourselves when we saw these tweets from the official Garda Twitter account.

On Tuesday we ran a story based on a video shot at Doyle’s Corner, North Circular Road, Dublin 7.

You can read it by clicking this headline:

Video: Only cyclists break red traffic lights in Ireland, right? Take a look at this

It highlighted how motorists, including bus drivers, we regularly breaking the lights at the junction in the north inner city.

The clip showed several cars at a time - and some cyclists it must be said - driving through amber or red lights, with some motorists oblivious or indifferent to the fact pedestrians were trying to cross on the green man as they steamed through illegally.

Yesterday, just 24 hours after we published the well received and much commented on video; it emerged the Garda Traffic Unit was patrolling the same traffic lights to deter the behaviour we wrote about.

It's difficult to tell if the Garda operation was a direct response to our coverage or if the timing was coincidental.

But the clip was shot before Christmas and published on YouTube nearly two months ago, generating few hits until we gave it our attention.

So the only thing that brought it to the fore in recent days was the story we published.

The clip was posted on YouTube under the bobgoodbear account.

The Garda announced the operation was taking place on its Twitter account yesterday morning in the first message, above.

And confirmation it was ongoing appeared in photo form in the tweet below.

We're claiming it!
