With the cameras rolling, a new young pro nearly had a disastrous first day at big school! Above, Mathis on his way to the U23 TT world title on Qatar in October (Photo: Sirotti)
He may be the U23 TT World Champion, but Marco Mathis very nearly had a first day at big school to for forget.
The German hope is aged just 22-years and has joined WorldTour team Katusha-Alpecin from Rad-Net Rose in the off season.
And when he met up with his colleagues in his new team for a pre Christmas get together and training camp, he was clearly eager to impress; a little too eager perhaps.

The new Katusha-Alpecin kit looks great.
Out on the open road when the group decided to sprint to test each other, Mathis clearly wanted to show what he was made of.
But coming off the wheel of one of his new team mates he very nearly went into the back of him with the cameras rolling recording the group’s every move.
In the end he got away with it; correctly himself after a wobble and powering on up the road.
It's not the first time he has cut it fine, though a near miss at the Worlds on his way to U23 TT gold was perhaps not his owning doing, as the video in this piece shows.
The team also unveiled its new kit at the camp, above, which looks very sweet indeed.
Could have been nasty!
