QuickStep's Serry furious after taken out by BikeExchange car at Giro | Video

Pieter Serry was accidentally taken out by the BikeExchange team car at the Giro and though it was completely accidental he was furious

Pieter Serry had just gone out the back of the favourites group in the finale of today's brutal stage at the Giro d'Italia when he was hit from behind by a team car and knocked suddenly onto the tarmac.

The Deceuninck-QuickStep had just completed his work for team leader Remco Evenepoel when he was hit from behind the Team BikeExchange team car.

Serry was drifting back towards the vehicle when the car's front bumper hit his back wheel and shunted him, taking him off the bike in the process. He was on the wet tarmac, still clipped into the pedals, when the BikeExchange staff jumped out of the car to help the Belgian rider.

Thankfully he didn't see to be injured and didn't even need a bike change, though the crash could have been a lot worse. Serry was absolutely furious and could be seen remonstrating with the BikeExchange personnel before getting underway again.

He rode the final 12km to the finish and eventually finished in 61st place, in a group 14:37 down on stage winner Gino Mäder (Bahrain-Victorious).

It was not immediately clear why the crash happened, though the Alpecin Fenix car was alongside the BikeExchange car at the time and it appeared like they were passing something from one car to the other, clearly not expecting a rider to drift back out of the group.
