Rojas shares photos of scars after gruesome double leg break at Vuelta

José Joaquín Rojas shared this photo of his crazy leg scars one week apart as they heal up.

José Joaquín Rojas has shared these photos of his leg scars after suffering a double compound fracture to his leg in the Vuelta last month.

The two photos show his post-surgery leg one week apart as the scars heal up.

He fell on a sweeping bend as he descended on stage 20 and a nearby vehicle appeared to put him off his line, as the video below shows.

The Spanish Movistar rider crashed to the tarmac then slid across it and under a roadside crash barrier. He was dumped off the road, suffering a double leg break that punctured his skin.

The Spanish road race champion was in the breakaway at the time when the official car got in his way and put him off his line coming down the Alto de Tollos.

He hit his leg hard off the iron roadside barrier and was taken to hospital in Alcoy where he has had surgery for the fractures to his tibia and fibula of the left leg.
