Video: Rojas crashes off the side of road descending at Vuelta

Down he went, sliding across the tarmac, under the crash barrier and right off the road down the other side.

José Joaquín Rojas has taken a very nasty spill on Saturday’s stage of the Vuelta while descending a climb.

The Spanish Movistar rider came down on a sweeping bend when his wheels went from under him. And his momentum saw him slide across the tarmac and under a crash barrier by the roadside.

He then kept going, off the road and down the other side.

Luckily there wasn’t a huge drop so the race organisers didn’t need to send out a search party for him, as has happened in the past.

He was extremely lucky he didn’t smash his head off the steel roadside barrier, but he did smash his leg and has been left with a double break, of which he has shared photos on Twitter.
