Preview: Details of all the racing action for the weekend ahead, nationwide

 

You’ll find a preview below of all of the races being held across the country this coming Sunday, March 18th.

Sunday, March 18th

Connaught

Ras Mhaigheo, Westport

Covey Wheelers are putting on two races on Sunday, both 80km and catering for all categories; A1/A2/A3/A4/Jnr. Sign on is at the Castlecourt Hotel in Westport from 11.30am with racing to start at 1pm.

There will be two separate races; one for A1/A2/A3 riders, with the A3s getting a handicap. The second race is for A4/Junior riders.

Both races are over the same 80km one-loop course that includes Louisburgh, Ashleigh Falls, Aughagower, Mace and the Westport start/finish.

Covey Wheelers are also putting on a schedule of underage races before the main events. Those races will start at 10am, with sign on at the Castlecourt Hotel between 8.30am and 9.30am.

The U12s will do 13km, U14s will do 22km and U16s will do 40km.

Leinster

Newbridge GP in Newbridge, Co Kildare

Newbridge CC is running its Newbridge GP series of races on Sunday afternoon, with races for all senior categories and juniors.

The A1/A2 race will be six laps of the 17km circuit and will start at 12.30pm. There is a separate race for A3 riders; four laps of the circuit and starting just after the A1/A2 departure.

The third and final race is for A4 riders, with three laps of the 17km loop getting underway just after the A3 event.

Riders please note that all three races will be neutralised from the sign on at 12:05pm for the staggered starts from 12:30pm. The start/finish area is at Rathbride on the Rathangan road.

Sign on is at Lumville House close to the Curragh Camp. You need to take exit 12 off the M7 and then take the first exit off the roundabout, then the first turn on the left just after coming off the roundabout and shortly after that the first turn on your right, which puts you onto the road for Lumville House. The racing is sponsored by Newbridge Credit Union.

 

Ulster

PJ Logan Cup, Island Wheelers, Coalisland

On Sunday afternoon Island Wheelers holds its annual PJ Logan Cup programme of races in Coalisland. There are three races down for decision.

The main event is for A1/A2/A3 riders and will be eight laps of the circuit for a total race distance of approximately 54 miles. The field is limited to the first 65 riders that signed on in advance online, though a waiting list system is also in operation.

The second race is for A4 riders only and will be five laps, for a race distance of approximately 34 miles. Again the field is limited to 65 riders and a pre sign-on arrangement has been in place online.

The third race of the day is over 50’s and women. It will be two laps, or 14 miles, and is the latest round in the “Time Square Gold Cup Series”. Riders can sign on on the morning of the race.

Sign on is from 11:00am at Gortgonis Centre, Coalisland. The field will leave that venue at 1:15pm and will be neutralized to the start proper for a 1:30pm start.

 

Munster
