Our set of 10 photos capture the moment of carnage that ended Dan Martin's Giro d'Italia

With his Garmin Sharp team confirming this evening that Dan Martin suffered a fractured collar bone in the team time trial crash in Belfast, the race's big Irish start is down one of its biggest home stars.

Our photos below capture the moment when Martin slipped on a sunken pot hole cover on a flat stretch of slightly wet road, bringing down the three team mates behind him; Nathan Haas, Koldo Fernandez and Andre Cardoso.

Our photos below capture the moment the incident began and how it spread down the line of riders to ultimately leave Martin down and out on the wet Belfast road, just 15 minutes into the three week Grand Tour.
