Video MTB rider jumps over heads of Tour de France breakaway
An MTB rider has jumped over the race route at the Tour de France on Tuesday’s stage 10.
The rider waited until the TV cameras arrived with the breakaway of the day before launching himself from a steep sloping field over the race route.
He gained speed and jumped the road; clearing it as the head of the breakaway was passing underneath him.
He landed his jump safely in the field on the other side of the road. And for effect he took one hand off his handlebars as he flew through the air above the Tour cyclists.
The breakaway men seemed oblivious. And while the stunt was caught in the live TV footage, it was over in an instant.
It wasn’t until the trick was replayed in slow motion that the flying cyclist could be seen more clear.
In 2013 mountain biker Romain Marandet jumped over the route of the Tour de France as yellow jersey Chris Froome passed under him.
In other news, the first leprechaun of this year’s Tour appeared by the roadside today, below.
And Peter Sagan took some time out to wave to his fans as he climbed the Col de la Croix Fry, also featured below.
