Here’s a couple of videos for you featuring mountain biker Romain Marandet jumping over the route of the Tour de France on Saturday’s penultimate stage as yellow jersey Chris Froome passed under him.
Marandet, riding a downhill bike, is seen darting from the bushes at the side of the road, becoming airborne for a few seconds as Froome passes right under him, and then disappearing into the bushes on the opposite side of the road.
He landed the jump perfectly, unlike Dave Watson who tried the same stunt in the 2003 Tour.
On that occasion Watson timed his take off poorly and the group had just gone past when he hurtled through the air. He also crash landed quite badly.
The first video below is the actual jump by Marandet on Saturday and the one underneath it documents how the Frenchman and his crew prepared for the stunt.
