This skinsuit that WorldTour team Cannondale has come up with in the Irish champion's colours for Ryan Mullen is slick. But it is exceedingly small....
The Irish time trial (TT) champion Ryan Mullen is a big lad. But judging by this photo, you'd wonder has anyone told his team.
WorldTour squad Cannondale, who Mullen signed with last year, has produced this skinsuit for him in the Irish champion's livery.
For our money, it looks very slick indeed, with the slightly darker than usual purple trim on the sleeves and shorts really finishing off the look.
But it is very small indeed, especially around the waist.
Most of the skinsuits the pro teams use are so tight now that the riders need help getting into them.
And they are so well fitted to hug the riders’ crouched position on the bike they’re really uncomfortable to stand up in.
This design has been perfected in recent years as teams have gotten more aggressive in finding every extra bit of aerodynamics they can with bikes, kit and clothing.
And with wind tunnel tests having revealed a massive difference between tight and even slightly loser fitting clothing, it’s little wonder the cut of the skinsuits has been refined so much.
By the looks of his new suit, Mullen won’t be flapping around in the breeze any time soon.
And hopefully when he squeezes inside of this, he’ll make an impression on big-time TT riding against the best in the world.
So. Apparently I fit inside this.
Last time I wore something this small I was in a high chair! pic.twitter.com/JY4Gu6pYCl
