Dan Martin makes his move in the final 200 metres of the race up the finishing ramp of the Mur de Huy.

 

The riders filled the narrow climbs and the spectators filled the roadside to make a sea of people.

Valverde opened a gap on Martin when he pounced with 150 metres remaining, just as the Irish Garmin-Sharp star looked like he may dance away to victory.

He said after the race that he didn't feel the gradient on the Mur the first time up; you can safely say he felt it at the finish judging by the expression here.

 

The photofinish; well not really. The gaps between the riders have been shortened to fit the top three into the same frame. In reality Valverde was three seconds ahead of Martin, who was one second up on Kwiatkowski.
