Shattered: When you see a guy like Dan Martin grimace like this, you know it's been hell out there. The Irishman crosses the line in 2nd place atop the Mur de Huy in Flèche Wallonne just behind winner Alejandro Valverde (Movistar). At Martin's rear wheel in 3rd is Polish champion Michael Kwiatkowski (Omega Pharma Quickstep). In the distance with his head buried is 7th placed Michael Albasini (Orica Greenedge), with Roman Kreuziger (Tinkoff-Saxo) in blue and yellow further back, on his way to 8th (Photo: Sirotti)
If you were in work or out on the bike this afternoon and missed Dan Martin's second place ride in the 199km Flèche Wallonne classic in Belgium, worry not. You'll find the last 8km in the clip below.
A reduced peloton arrived at the foot of the finishing Mur de Huy climb intact, with the big favourites slogging it out for the win.
Martin initially looked a little far back but pounced around a small group that had pulled clear from the rest of the field on the climb under the pressure applied by Polish champion Michael Kwiatkowski (Omega Pharma Quickstep).
Just as the Irishman looked like he may be powering towards his second classic win, Valverde took it up and put in a massive surge to pull away from Martin; the Garmin-Sharp man forced to settle for the runner-up spot.
