
A cyclist has been left with serious injuries, and was airlifted to hospital, after being hit by a driver in a car this afternoon in Naas, Co Kildare.
The injured man, who is in his early 60s, was taken for treatment to Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, which specialises in care for those with serious head injuries.
Gardaí said they are carrying out an investigation into the crash and were appealing for witnesses to the incident, which took place on Station Road, Allenwood, Naas, this afternoon, to come forward.
“Shortly before 2pm, a male cyclist was seriously injured when he was struck by a car. Gardaí and ambulance attended the scene,” gardaí said in a statement.
“The cyclist, a man in his early 60s, was airlifted from the scene by the Air Corp Ambulance to Beaumont Hospital. His condition is understood to be serious. Diversions are in place as Forensic Collision Investigators conducted a technical examination of the scene.”
The Garda added the driver of the car was a woman in her 20s. They are appealing for any road users who may have been recording video footage in the area at the time to contact them.

Today’s crash follows another serious incident involving a cyclist last weekend. A man in his 70s was seriously injured on the Stillorgan Road, N11, after a crash with a motorist. He was also taken to Beaumont Hospital.
