Cyclist suffers serious head injuries in crash with driver in Sunday morning incident

A cyclist has been left in critical condition, with serious head injuries, after a crash on Sunday morning in south Dublin involving a driver in a car.

The injured man was cycling in Donnybrook at about 11.30am when the crash occurred and he was taken from the scene in an ambulance to nearby St Vincent's Hospital. However, as his head injuries were so serious he was transferred to Beaumont Hospital, north Dublin, for more specialised treatment.

Gardaí investigating the crash on the Stillorgan Road, N11, have asked for any witnesses who were in the area at the time, especially if they were recording video, to come forward and help the inquiry.

"Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene at approximately 11.30am following reports of a collision between a car and a bicycle," a statement from Garda Headquarters said.

"The cyclist, a man in aged his 70s, was later taken to St Vincent’s Hospital. The man has since been transferred to Beaumont Hospital where he is receiving treatment for serious injuries.

"Diversions were in place for a period of time this afternoon as forensic collision investigators conducted a technical examination of the scene. The road has since re-opened."
