Sundrive Road Velodrome in Dublin will host its strongest ever field this weekend for the UCI-ranked Dublin Track Cycling International.
While the home challenge features some of our best track riders, including Martyn Irvine and Caroline Ryan, the overseas contingent is fiercer and features an array of the sport’s best.
There’s a world class team travelling from the Netherlands, one that includes reigning world scratch race champion Kirsten Wild and sprint silver medallist Tim Veldt.
Wild has been awesome on both the road and track in recent years, winning almost at will.
And she should help attract a large attendance, not least because admission is free both days; Saturday and Sunday.
The reigning men's world scratch race champion Lucas Liss of Germany is also entered.
New Zealand is sending a strong squad, in a clear sign it means business.
They host a round of the UCI World Cup in December and will be keen to iron out any kinks in their respective disciplines before then.
Regan Gough is one of their leading lights, having claimed a gold medal while riding for their team pursuit squad at the World Track Championships in Paris last February.
He will be joined by emerging stars of the world stage Cameron Karwowski and Nick Kergozou.
Rising Danish starlet and twice world junior road race champion Amalie Dideriksen was a bronze medallist in the points race at last year's World Championships and she’s another who has confirmed her attendance.
But perhaps the most established rider taking part this weekend is former elite women’s road race champion Tatiana Guderzo of Italy.
The 30-year-old wrote her name into the history books in 2009 when she beat the indomitable Marianne Vos to win the World Road Race Championship in Mendrisio.
The local entry can boast its own collection of top international results.
Former scratch race world champion Martyn Irvine heads the home challenge; the Co Down native having also won a silver medal in the individual pursuit.
Kildare's Caroline Ryan counts a bronze medal in the World Championship points race among her sporting achievements and is on a mission to push for a maiden Olympic appearance as part of a strong Irish contingent.
Josie Knight is really emerging as a world class talent and having won silver in the junior individual pursuit at European Track Championships last year she’s progressed onto the elite squad and does not look at all out of place.
