With Video: Philip Deignan in contention in Canada after queen stage summit finish

Philip Deignan has moved himself into the shake-up for the final overall win at the Tour de Beauce (UCI 2.2) in Canada after he made the select group on stage 3, the hilliest of the race.

The Unitedhealthcare rider was distanced towards the top of the summit finish at Mont-Mégantic after 164km of racing yesterday, Thursday. Deignan relinquished 41 seconds to stage winner and new race leader Francisco Mancebo Perez from Spain and riding for  '5 Hour Energy p/b Kenda'.

The Irishman is in 6th place overall with three stages remaining. They include a lumpy 20km time trial today, Friday, followed by a circuit race tomorrow with a steep climb each lap.

Overall winner at the Tour of the Gila (UCI 2.2) in New Mexico last month and 9th overall at the Tour of California (UCI 2.HC) just after that, Deignan is in a race-winning position in Canada. He is just 41 seconds off the yellow jersey and the next two stages are hard enough to get that back as long as he has the legs.
