Greg Williamson has taken the early lead in the ‘Chain Reaction Cycles Winter Downhill Series’ after emerging quickest in a soaking wet and muddy Bigwood Forest at Narrowater, Newry, on Sunday.

He flew down a very slippy run and was a clear winner over the small 12-man elite field; though a total of 136 riders braved the elements across the range of races down for decision.

Williamson clocked 1:32:765 and had over three seconds to spare on Glyn O’Brien in second, with Greg Callaghan in third just over one second further adrift.

In the junior race Thomas McCoy was also a clear winner, with his 1:46:996 more than four seconds quicker than Adam Tarbett in second, with Craid Rea just over one second further back in third.

The second of the CRC series takes place at Bigwood on February 26th.
