Whelan draws first blood on return of racing to Mondello

Brendan Whelan of Cycling Pursuits has taken the first round of the Bike Worx Series in Mondello Park, Co Kildare.

He came home this evening, Tuesday, ahead of Stephen Halpin (Metaltek SCOTT), with Timmy O’Regan (DID Dunboyne) in third.

This evening’s event was the first in a series backed by Bike Worx of Celbridge in Co Kildare.

With a total of six races – all of which will be handicapped events – the series is a substantial one for any riders based in the Leinster area or even a little further afield.

The races will be open to all senior categories and will all be run on Tuesday evenings, starting at 7.30pm.

The events are being put on by Naas Cycling Club and Usher Irish Road Club.

Racing is scheduled from May to August on the following future dates: June 19th, July 3rd and 24th and August 7th and 14th. All races are open to A1, A2, A3 and A4 riders.

With the track situated close to the M7 and M50 near Naas, it is within easy reach of huge parts of the country, a factor that should guarantee big fields and exciting racing like last year.
