Weather conditions force cancelation of Youth National Road Champs

The final round of the Cycling Ireland National Road Series was not the only casualty of storm Betty that hit Ireland overnight, with the National Youth Road Championships all cancelled today, Saturday.

The road race and TT titles, across the age groups, were set to be fought for on the roads of Co Louth today, but promoters Cuchulainn Cycling Club had to make the difficult decision to cancel.

Like Banbridge CC north of the Border - which was forced to cancel the Alan Towell Memorial, which was to be the final round of the National Road Series today - Cuchulainn Cycling Club said the damage caused to the courses intended for the youth title races made them unrideable.

"Following a course inspection this morning we have made the difficult decision to cancel today's event due to fallen trees, flooding and debris," the club said.

It was unclear if either fixture could be rescheduled before the end of the season but we'll bring you news on that just as soon as he have it.
