Watson, Burns win as McCambridge (16) announces his arrival
Lindsay Watson of Powerhouse Sport has added the Ulster 10 mile TT elite title to his list of impressive results for the year.
Watson claimed gold in a time of 19:24, some 17 seconds ahead of Caldwell Cycles man Craig McAuley.
And claiming bronze was Donal Shearer of Phoenix CC. He was just three seconds slower than McAuley.
Two really impressive rides on the day were those of Eileen Burns and junior rider Kevin McCambridge.
Ireland and Northern Ireland international rider Burns claimed the women’s title in a time of 20:12.
And of the 86 almost all-male entrants, she placed 10th on the day. She took the elite women’s title from Ballymena Road Club team mate Joann Lowry.
In the junior contest, McCambridge clocked a time of 19:30. That was just nine seconds off the Irish junior record set by Ben Walsh last year.
And with that, McCambridge must surely have put himself into the reckoning for international selection, especially against the watch.
He was 2nd of the entire field but he was not eligible for an elite medal and so took away junior gold.
In the junior silver medal position was Ciaran Cahoon of Clann Eireann CC in a time of 20:02. And in 3rd place was Shay Donley of NRPT-Chill Insurance in a time of 20:26.

Meta Johnston of Team Madigan won the women’s Masters title. Subject to Cycling Ireland ratification, she also broke the Irish masters record with 22:45.
Karen Hull of Phoenix CC was 2nd in a time of 23:47, with Joanna Regan of Ballymena Road Club next in 23:47.
William Loughridge (Unattached) won the Masters 40 title with a time of 19:54.
He was 13 seconds ahead of Stephen Colbert (Ballymena RC), with bronze medallist Rodney Stewart (Unattached) another eight seconds down.
In the Masters 50 race, John Madden of Inspired Cycling was best; claiming gold in 20:20. John Rafferty (Ards CC) was next 17 seconds down.
Alistair Robinson took the bronze medal for Bann Wheelers in a time of 20:53, rounding out a very quick podium.
SportActive’s Martin Birney claimed the Masters 60 title. His 22:30 was some five seconds faster than Pat Dunnion of Finn Wheelers with Albert Douglas of Team Madigan taking bronze in a time of 22:38.
In the hand cycling; Darrell Erwin took the title for the promoting club in a time of 27:36. Jim Corbett of Banbridge CC won silver with 28:05 and Ted McKibbin of Dromara claimed bronze in 35:08.
In the C1-C5 class, Stephen Workman of Ballymena RC took gold with 21:41.
