Watch Roglic drop struggling Bernal on last climb at Dauphiné | Video

Jumbo Visma are on a roll at precisely the same time Team Ineos look weaker than at any point in recent years

Primoz Roglic and his Jumbo Visma team once again got the better of Team Ineos today; the British team a shadow of their former selves in the finale of stage 2 at Critérium du Dauphiné.

While Team Ineos tried to take over on the front as the bunch was reduced from a large peloton to a small select group up the Col de Porte towards the finish line, Egan Bernal looked spent by the time his last team mate peeled off the front.

However, Sepp Kuss of Jumbo Visma then took it up and deep inside the final kilometre when Roglic really upped the pace with an attack, Bernal was on his wheel and tried to hold him but was simply unable to.

Roglic powered home to win the stage and take the race lead from his team mate and stage 1 winner Wout van Aert.

The new race leader won today's 135km stage by eight seconds from Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ), who finished in the same time as Emanuel Buchmann (Bora-hansgrohe) and Guillaume Martin (Cofidis).

There was then a gap of two more seconds to the remains of the select group, with Bernal in that section of riders and finishing 10th on the stage.

Nicolas Roche (Team Sunweb) lost his place in the front group with about 5km to go while Dan Martin (Israel Start-Up Nation) took a heavy fall mid-stage but was able to get back on his bike.

More to come.
