
Darren Rafferty (Hagens Berman Axeon) was on the attack in the final 50km of stage 2 at the Baby Giro on Monday, the U23 version of the Giro d'Italia.
The Co Tyrone rider set off in pursuit of the early breakaway with about 50km to go in the company of Gil Gelders (Soudal-Quick-Step Devo Team), the 20-year-old Belgian who won a stage on the race last year and claimed U23 Gent Wevelgem earlier this year.
The Irish-Belgian duo caught the breakaway, with just one of them - Edoardo Zamperini (Zalf Euromobil Fior) - staying with them. As the bunch closed in on them, Gelders jumped in the final kilometre to win the stage. You can see the highlights below.
