Adam Ward (Team SmartDry Girona Cycling City) has won the main event at the Mozzarella Fellas Lady of the Lake Race in Irvinestown, Enniskillen, promoted by Lakeland Cycling Club.

Gareth O'Neill (Team Caldwell Cycles) was 2nd, with Darragh Mc Carter (Spellman-Dublin Port) rounding out the podium on the day.

Ward's latest win continues a very strong season for the 21-year-old, who was selected for the Irish team for Rás Tailteann and won a stage before finishing 3rd overall.

He also put in a very strong ride the weekend before last to finish in a much reduced peloton in the U23 road race at the European Road Championships in Portugal. Today he took his latest win a sprint from a large group, which was stretched right out in the uphill gallop, with Ward taking it comfortably.

Ward emerged best in the handicapped race
after the scratch riders were made to ride hard all the way to get back on terms
with the limit group, and averaged 46km per hour for the opening hour of racing.

Seth Dunwoody, the U16 rider from Shelbourne
Orchard CC, was allowed off in the scratch group as he prepares for the European
Youth Olympics. He was one of the driving forces as the group worked to cancel
out the gaps given to the groups ahead.

With one lap remaining, and with the catch still
not made, Gareth O’Neill (Caldwell Cycles) and Darragh McCarter (Spellman
Dublin Port) got away from the scratch group. Ward had to put a very hard
effort in to get across to that strong duo.

Once he bridged the gap, making it three A1s
chasing those still ahead, they worked together and finally got the front of
the race with about half a lap remaining.

And while there were plenty of attacks coming
in the road todays the finish, that front group stayed together and Ward was
able to hold off O’Neill and McCarter to win.

Duncan Halliday (Errigal Cycling Club)
was just behind the top three to take 4th place with Aaron Quinn (Four Masters CC) 5th
and Paul Doherty (Four Masters CC) 6th.

In the A3 race Jamie Phillips (All human-VeloRevolution) took victory well clear of his other breakaway companions on the drag to the line; Philips winning ahead of Declan McEntee (Emyvale CC) and Niall Daly (Square Wheels)
