But young British professional rider Daniel McLay launched himself onto the world stage by the manner of his victory in the 1.HC rank 199.6km event.
As the aerial footage in the clip below shows, the 24-year-old riding for Fortuneo-Vital Concept looked out of the fight for 1st place in the dying metres of the dash to the line into Denain.
But with a really impressive turn of speed and sublime movement around those riders in his path, McLay shot through and took a fantastic win.
