Video: This on-board footage from Alpe d'Huez is awesome

The on-board footage from the Tour's Alpe d'Huez stage really hammers home how wild the crowds are.

The racing on the Tour de France up Alpe d'Huez ascent was the best we've seen in the last three weeks; all out attacking as the strongest battle for stage honours and the yellow jersey.

But what adds the 'Cup Final' atmosphere to the climb every time it's tackled are the crowds.

The on-board footage below reveals just how close they get to the riders, with many clearly having their progress halted by spectators who step out into the middle of the road and only step back at the last second.

And even when they move to make room for the riders battling the slopes, they don't give them much room.

There's also a great last day of term feel to this clip, with some of the riders really interacting with the crowds and geeing them up.

And there are the by now ever present idiots letting off flares - at altitude on one of the hardest climbs in the world when the riders are gasping for air.
