Eddie Dunbar has finished safely in the bunch on the opening stage of four at Tour de La Provence (2.Pro) in France.
The Irish rider of Team Ineos crossed the line in 80th place on the same time as winner Nacer Bouhanni (Arkea Samsic) after 149.5km from Châteaurenard to Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer.
With his first competitive outing of the 2020 season now under his belt Dunbar is looking ahead to tomorrow's stage which is a chance for him to impress as there is no shortage of climbing.
The 174.9km stage from Aubagne to La Ciotat features the 10.3km Col de l’Espigoulier at 5.4 per cent from the start line with three more climbs to follow before the 4.7km climb of La Ciotat, at seven per cent, up to the finish line.
During today's stage 1 the riders fighting it out in the sprint got a fright just before the finish line when a spectator ran out across the road in front of them.
While the woman crossed the road without incident, she cut it very fine indeed, as the first video below shows.
The second clip is a brief highlights package of today's opening stage. The race features three more stages, all with climbing, including a finish on Mont Ventoux on Saturday.
