Sam Bennett had to settle for 4th place at the end of
stage 4 at UAE Tour today when he was muscled out by the other fast men in the
field.
The 173km stage from Zabeel Park to Dubai City Walk
finished on a very wide road, veering left just before the line.
With lots of movement at all points across the road,
Jumbo Visma was the most successful at controlling the front in the closing
stages.
Bennett’s Deceuninck-QuickStep looked a little
disorientated trying to get their lead-out in place initially. In the end Shane
Archbold and Michael Mørkøv piloted Bennett to the front.
As the sprint began Bennett suddenly looked well place
and hit the front. However, a trio of riders overtook him before the line.
Dylan Groenewegen (Jumbo-Visma) took victory from Fernando Gaviria (UAE-Team Emirates) and Pascal
Ackermann (Bora-hansgrohe), with
Bennett next.
Because the stage finished in a bunch sprint there was no
change to the overall; Adam Yates (Mitchelton-Scott) leading the race with
Eddie Dunbar (Team Ineos) in 10th place at 2:06.
Dunbar will get another climbing chance tomorrow with
stage 5 once again finishes at the top of Jebel Hafeet
at the end of 162km of racing.
