The fastest men in the world were fanned out across the road in something of a blanket finish to today's stage 5 at UAE Tour; Sam Bennett among them.
Sam Bennett was in the thick of the sprint action at the end of stage 5 at UAE Tour today but was forced to settle for 4th.
It looked to be between the Irishman, Fernando Gaviria (UAE Team Emirates) and Marcel Kittel (Katusha-Alpecin).
However, just as Sam Bennett had won the final stage of Vuelta a San Juan recently, Elia Viviani came good with a late charge today.
The Italian national champion, riding for Deceuninck-QuickStep, drew level with his rivals and the nudged past them.
He took the victory in the blanket finish from Gaviria, Kittel and Bennett in that order.
The 181km stage from Flag Island to Khor Fakkan was run off at a slower pace than expected but provided an exciting finale.
As it came down to a bunch sprint there were no changes in the overall.
Race leader Primož Roglič (Jumbo-Visma) is still top of the standings. And he now looks good now for overall victory in his first race of the year.
Dan Martin (UAE Team Emirates) remains in 6th place overall some 1:01 behind the leader.
There are just two stages remaining, including the final uphill finish tomorrow and one for the sprinters on Saturday.
More to follow.
