Video: Sam Bennett gets bumped out of contention at UAE Tour

Pascal Ackermann takes the opening stage of UAE Tour after a fair chaotic sprint to the line

Sam Bennett missed the chance to sprint for victory on the opening stage of UAE Tour after getting bumped just before the line.

Fernando Gaviria (UAE Team Emirates) appeared to clash with the rider to his left and with Bennett's Deceuninck-QuickStep lead-out man Michael Mørkøv to his right.

That incident saw Gaviria and Mørkøv bump off each other and while Gaviria seemed annoyed, the clash looked completely accidental.

Bennett and Mørkøv were already being swamped a little by a significant amount of movement in the front of the peloton and once they were forced to correct their line they were instantly out of contention.

Pascal Ackermann (Bora-hansgrohe) came through what was a chaotic finale at the end of the 148km stage to Dubai Silicon Oasis.

Bennett effectively sat up and finished 13th while Eddie Dunbar (Team Ineos) was also in the bunch, along with his team mate Chris Froome.

Tomorrow's second stage finishes atop Hatta Dam, an incline that can suit both sprinters and climbers.
