Video & Report: James McMaster edges out Alastair Macauley to take Tour of Ards

James McMaster of Curran Racing

James McMaster of Curran Racing (centre of shot) was yesterday fastest of a four-man breakaway to take the Tour of Ards on the Ards peninsula. He just about got the better of Alastair Macauley, the Phoenix CC man who took a fantastic solo win on the first stage of the Gorey Three Day last weekend.

Gary Cranston (East Antrim Audi) was a close third, with Bryan McCrystal (Cuchulainn CC) bringing up the rear of the breakaway to take fourth spot. Those four men moved clear of the field on the second of two circuits of the Loughdoo course after Portaferry.

While they worked well and gained a lead of almost 1:30, the bunch never gave up and had them pegged back to just seven seconds by the finish line, where fastman Brian Stewart (Phoenix CC) used his very quick finishing kick to take the sprint for 5th.
