Nicolas Roche has had a difficult day at the office on stage 13 of the Tour de France, the first day in the Alps which finished atop the race’s first hors category climb.

The Irish man came home in 43rd place, some 19:10 down on race leader Vincenzo Nibali, who was taking his third stage victory.

However, while Roche (Tinkoff-Saxo) has gone on the attack since team leader Alberto Contador crashed out, he said he would not be aggressive every day.

Roche’s team mate Rafal Majka was second today and said tomorrow’s mountain stage represented a very good chance for the team to try for a victory.

“Rogers and Roche are strong on the climbs so we have different cards to play,” he said.

“The first climb tomorrow will definitely be hard as well so that could be a good spot to attack if the right moment comes.”
