Promoted by Limerick Cycling Club, Rás Luimní in Caherconlish, Co, Limerick, each year provides a tough early season test for some of the best riders in the country.
This year they grappled with strong crosswinds on the tough course but Paidi O'Brien prevailed in a sprint from the breakaway to take the 2014 crown.
The former An Post-Sean Kelly team rider and reigning national criterium champion for clear in that break alongside the Aquablue duo of last year’s winner Sean Lacey and Robin Kelly and Killarney’s John Mannix.
With four circuits of 32 kilometres to complete, the decisive escape pulled clear on the final lap.
On the uphill finish, Lacey went early and went very close to the win thought O’Brien had just about enough to get past and claim victory, his first of the 2014 season.
Lacey took 2nd, followed by Kelly and the Mannix.
