Video: Eddie Dunbar impresses up Mont Ventoux on virtual Tour de France

Eddie Dunbar has put in a strong ride on the queen stage of the virtual Tour de France up Mont Ventoux

Eddie Dunbar placed 6th of the 88-rider field on the
queen stage of the virtual Tour de France, which saw the riders tackle Mont
Ventoux.

Michael Woods, the Canadian rider with EF Pro Cycling,
proved too strong for the opposition on the 22km stage.

Woods pushed the pace early and had the legs to keep his
effort going; riding all of the other riders off his wheel for a very strong
win at Chalet Reynard

While Woods proved very strong through the stage, he made
his first major attack with about 10km remaining and split what remained of the
group.

That surge saw Woods pull clear with Domenico Pozzovivo
(NTT) and Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma).

However, Irish rider Dunbar (Team Ineos) was also strong
and he got across to the leaders with NTT’s Louis Meintjes, Ben O’Connor and
Stefan de Bod.

Romain Bardet (Ag2r La Mondiale) was also up with the
leaders for a period but soon lost his place.

When Woods pressed again with about 7km to go Meintjes
and Pozzovivo went with him, though about 3km further up the road they could no
longer follow Woods.

And that’s how it stayed to the finish; Woods riding
clear to win from Pozzovivo by 18 seconds with Meintjes rounding out the podium
some 50 seconds back.

Then came De Bod 1:17 in 4th place before Gavin Mannion (Rally Cycling) claimed 5th at 2:15 with Dunbar 6th at 2:40.
