Video: Dumoulin stops for emergency loo call and Giro rivals up pace

Giro leader Tom Dumoulin gets into a ditch to squat for an emergency loo break. And his rivals upped the pace.

Very unusual scenes have unfolded at the Giro d’Italia, with race leader Tom Dumoulin forced to stop by the roadside for a squatting natural break.

The race leader looked in a panic as he pulled over to the roadside and it soon emerged why.

He took off his jersey and began to peel back the bib shorts before the TV cameras realised it wasn’t a pee he was going for.

And while he was back up and running very quickly, the group of favourites he was in did not cover themselves in glory.

Rather than ease back and allow the race leader back on, the pace was upped.

The incident has left the race leader trailing his main rivals and provoked anger among cycling fans on social media.

Many have pointed out that when Nairo Quintana (Movistar) crashed at the weekend, it was Dumoulin who influenced the group they were in to ease back and let him back on.
