Denmark’s Kamilla Vallin has wrapped up overall victory in the An Post Rás na mBan 2012 after finishing safely in the group that sprinted for the final stage victory in Sneem, Co Kerry, today after six stages over five days.
As has been the case for the past two days, the stage went to Karla Boddy of High Wycombe CC. She was quickest to the line from the lead group of 29 riders after the short 57.6km stage.
On the first ascent of Moll’s Gap today a number of attacks came to nothing as IVCA Queen of the Mountains jersey holder Amalie Dideriksen claimed maximum points at the head of the bunch over the cat 2 climb. She already had an unassailable lead in that competition going into today’s stage.

Lydia Boylan started the stage in second on GC, just six seconds down on Vallin. And while she and her Team Ireland squad members tried to put Vallin under pressure going up the climb they failed to drop her.
The third cat climb to Carraig na Gaoithe also failed to split the riders and it was looking like Vallin and her Reelight Bike Toyz Kvickly team mates had things under control.
A star of the domestic scene this season, Sara Ortiz of Black Rose Racing has had a quiet race this week but attacked after Carraig na Gaoithe today and carved out a gap of around 15 seconds as she ploughed on alone towards the finish.
However, she was overhauled, setting the final stage up for a group sprint, which Boddy duly won. Fiona Meade (Munster) and Louise Moriarty (Look Mum No Hands) were second and third respectively.
Vallin finished safely in the main group to rubberstamp her overall win. Having held the lead since the third stage, the 19-year-old from Denmark fought off the challenge of Boylan and cruised in for a narrow but convincing win.
Meade, riding for Munster, won the Sneem Hotel County Rider award. Vallin’s and Dideriksen’s Reelight Bike Toyz Kvickly team took the overall team award while Black Rose Racing won the Irish county team award.
