Ulster Hill Climb Champs 2019: Adam Ward takes elite title win

Ireland’s national junior road race champion last year,
Adam Ward, has rounded off his 2019 season with victory in the Ulster Hill
Climb Championships.

The first-year U23 rider took the elite provincial crown
today on Tircreven Road, Binevenagh Mountain, Co Derry.

On the one mile, 720ft ascent with an average gradient of
14 per cent, the Bioracer-DHL-FR Services rider
clocked a time of 6:42.

That was eight seconds faster
than Christopher Birney, who took the championship silver medal in the
colours of Team SportActive Racing.

And rounding out the podium in the day in the Roe Valley
Cycling Club promotion was Stuart McCaughey (Phoenix CC), another three seconds
down.
