UCD’s Colis nets top ten at Tour of India; Irish full of aggression after two stages

Teams from UCD CC and Lakeside Mullingar have given a good account of themselves in the first two races in the Tour of India series in recent days.

UCD’s Con Colis managed to get into 9th place in the 130km second race in Srinagar on Tuesday. In the opening event in the series last Sunday in Mumbai, the best Irish finisher was Ciaran O’Conluain who finished 13th after 128km.

The two Irish teams are riding the three-day in the cities of Mumbai, Srinagar and Delhi. While the event is billed as a three-day it is effectively a series of three one-day races.

David McQuaid, a former UCD student and member of the club, has secured the invite for the team.

The UCD team is Con Collis, Ciaran O’Conluain, Ian Richardson and Barrick Parker, with Jason O’Callaghan having travelled in a managerial capacity.

Lining up for Lakeside Wheelers in India is club member Johnny Murray and guests Dan Clifford (DID Dunboyne) and Chris Reilly (Bohermeen). The support and management crew is Shay O’Toole and Mick Reynolds.

The Irish riders have enjoyed some attacking racing in the first two events, with both teams well represented in the breakaways that have gone clear and mostly been overhauled before the finish (see full results below).

The first two stages took place last Sunday and on Tuesday in Mumbai and Srinagar respectively. The final race in the series unfolds this coming Sunday in Delhi.

The field is made up of many national teams, including Thailand, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan. There is also a Continental team from Germany and the Astana Continental squad.
