Katharine Smyth (Team Madigan) leads Alice Sharpe (Phoenix CC) in a race-winning attack for the pair, that should see them fill the top two spots on the Omagh Three Day overall
Alice Sharpe (Phoenix CC) and Katharine Smyth (Team Madigan) took control of the Omagh Three Day with a thrilling breakaway on stage three, that has left their rivals in the dust.
In what was described as the race of the day, Sharpe and Smyth attacked on the climb into Carrickmore, aggressive riding having already split the peloton into a number of groups.
The lack of firepower remaining in the main bunch, allowed Sharpe and Smyth to not only escape, but stay away, building up a considerable gap on the chasing group.
They were never caught, Sharpe, the winner of Friday's stage one, proving too strong for Smyth in the final sprint.
Third-placed Claire McIlwaine, joint-leader after the morning's time trial and racing in the pink jersey, will go into Sunday's last stage over four minutes behind the pair, with nine seconds separating Smyth and Sharpe.
