Two riders have been disqualified at the UCI World Cyclocross Championships in the Netherlands, including Belgian champion Marion Norbert Riberolle.
She was involved in a crash with Czech rider Kristýna Zemanová and after both of them got back to their feet Norbert Riberolle had a rush of blood to the head and pushed Zemanová.
Both riders, who were close to the front when the incident happened, had to get their chains back on before they were able to get going again. Norbert Riberolle got back into action first and as she passed Zemanová, who was still struggling with her chain, she could be shouting at her.
However, Norbert Riberolle was soon told by the commissaires her race was over as she had been disqualified. And she broke down as she came to a stop.
Lucinda Brand won the race, leading a Dutch clean sweep of the podium, from Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado and Puck Pieterse. Zemanová recovered from the mid race drama to take 11th.
In the men's U23 race, the disqualification wasn't as dramatic. It saw Stefano Viezzi - the Italian U23 champion - drop off his bike at the start of the pits area before running a long distance for a new bike.
However, he had broken the rules by leaving his bike outside the designated zone and so was disqualified. The race was won by Belgian Aaron Dockx from France's Aubin Sparfel.
