Saturday’s criterium around the tight Corkage Park course in west Dublin produced some fast and furious action with Lucan CRC owning the podium in the main event.

And in the undercard A4 race, Philip Roche showed that the men and women of Team WORC can switch their power from off road to great effect.

The racing on the 1.6km course designed for cycling - which keeps racers away from traffic - was promoted by South Dublin CC and with the backing of AliMaye and P&T Precision Engineering the club is hopeful of running more promotions.

In the main event, the riders faced 50 minutes of action plus three laps, with the A3 group given a 30-second lead on the A2s.

That gap quickly came down to nothing, as expected, and when the capture was made the men from Lucan CRC pounced.

Dermot Turlock-White and Cian Sutcliffe of the Co Dublin club were in the thick of the action and when they got clear in a two-up move they were not slow to grab their chance with both hands.

Slipping the main field around halfway through the race, the promising duo combined very well to build up a lead of about 45 seconds.

Behind, there was plenty of action as others tried to get clear of the bunch and bridge across to the two leaders.

Especially active in that regard were Murt Rice (Sundrive Track Team), Ciaran Hallinan (Dunboyne CC) and Sean Feeney and Gareth Hegarty, both of Donnybrook Landscape-Eurocycles.

However, those efforts were to no avail, with Turlock and Sutcliffe making it to the finish where Turlock took the two-up sprint.

Behind, the battle for 3rd came down to a group sprint, with Rice getting the verdict.

In the A4 race, the field failed to split up and Team WORC’s Philip Roche took the honours in a sprint from Sean Higgins (Orwell Wheelers).
