The Tour of the North opening stage was a relatively short one today but, as is so often the case, it was very fast as a result.
At the end of 111km of fast and furious racing, the first group home was the largest on the road and numbered just 28 riders; the rest of the field scattered back the road.
And in that top 28 all on the same time as stage winner and first yellow jersey, Jacob Tipper of Ribble, sixteen teams were represented.
